British police clash with student protesters as tens of thousands gathered in central London to denounce government plans to increase university tuition fees. As the parliament began voting on higher tuition fees, tens of thousands of students were marching through central London towards Parliament Square, a Press TV correspondent reported. Scotland Yard said that police have arrested just several protesters and that there were no reports of injuries. But live pictures aired on various international news channels showed police forces clashing with protesters, who were trying to enter the parliament building. The footage shows police failing to contain the marchers, and witnesses told Press TV that several protesters and police officers were wounded in the clashes. A large number of protesters have spilled onto the green of Parliament Square, painting a giant "No" in red paint. Police officers have donned riot gear and police horses are in place. Scotland Yard said in a statement that their "kettling" strategy to contain protesters "has been necessary to put in a containment in Parliament Square due to the level of violence officers are faced with". "Missiles including flares, sticks, snooker balls and paint balls have been aimed at police", added the statement.
